It was in her capacity as a global education advocate that Ms Gillard appeared at the Global Skills and Education Forum, a conference funded by an Indian billionaire and education philanthropist that pitches itself as "the Davos of Education". NAPLAN 2022 results: Every Qld school ranked The Courier Mail Exclusive RANKED: Every Qld school’s latest NAPLAN results revealed Public schools have ranked alongside inner-city private colleges to be named the state’s top academic performers in new NAPLAN results released today. She has a couple of visiting fellowships in the field. She is the Chair of the Global Partnership for Education, a fund that works to get more children in the poorest nations into basic schooling. Ms Gillard has kept a low profile since exiting politics in 2013, save publishing her 2014 memoir My Story. My School is a website that provides information about nearly every school in Australia, including school finances, enrolment profile, attendance rates and teacher numbers. What it can be used for is it compare schools with 60 other schools teaching children at the same levels of educational advantage and that's very profound information to know." NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. "It is good contextual information, it can't be used as league tables. My own view is that choices about education are better if you have the information. “A visit to the My School site is no substitute for a personal visit to a school, where parents have the opportunity to talk with the principal, teachers and students to help determine whether the school is the best choice to meet the unique needs and interests of their child.”īlackwood also warned against making value-for-money comparisons by attempting to align financial data published on the My School site with NAPLAN results."Whether they get that information from people who they run into at the shops, out of a tabloid newspaper, or they use the rich and transparent data set on the MySchool website, they will make those choices. “While the My School website is a good place for parents to start when gathering information about where they will educate their children, it is important to remember that My School gives only a very limited snapshot of school life,” she said. My School is where parents, educators and the community can find important information about each school in Australia. This diversity is evident not just in the relative socio-educational profile of schools’ student communities, but in their size, the range of year levels offered and also in their religious affiliations.”īlackwood recommended that parents using My School data to help them choose the most appropriate school for their child should read the school profile section and follow the links to schools’ websites. “One of the strongest stories that My School tells is that Australian schools are highly diverse. “The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is to be congratulated for its ongoing commitment to making complex data as accessible and as easy to read as possible,” said AHISA CEO Beth Blackwood. The move to add 2021 NAPLAN data to individual school data on the My School website has been welcomed by the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA).
